IOSF Holiday / Survey week

One of the great things about our trips is the way everyone gets on with each other. It takes a special sort of person who is willing to shun the crowded beaches and nightclubs and spend their time soaking up the dramatic scenery and atmosphere of the Hebrides. Not everyone wants to have lunch sitting on a rock watching otters or walk along a cliff path with the nearest house a few miles away. We often read of superb views looking over different cities, but they cannot compare with the view for example from Elgol to the Cuillin Hills in one direction or looking out to sea to the islands of Eigg, Muck, Rum and Canna.

And another special thing about our guests is that they not only enjoy wildlife and scenery, they care enough to want to do something to protect it, as all profits from our trips go to caring for otters, both in this country and abroad.

So what can you hope to see during your time on Skye. Everyone always wants to spot an otter but Skye has much more than otters – how about eagles (both white-tailed and golden), dolphins, whales, seals, seabirds, orchids, Arctic-Alpine flowers and a wealth of archaeology and history too.

Our Otter Detective course is designed to show you more about otters, their behaviour and ecology. We will show you how to identify secondary signs (spraints, washing pools, tracks, etc) so that you can explore for yourself when you go back home.

Otters, Wildlife and Heritage will include a bit of everything – otters (of course), other wildlife, geology and some archaeology. You may like to visit our neighbouring island of Raasay, which is just a short ferry trip from Skye.
